Det skal I lave

Using kimono fabric, you will make your own netsuke—a traditional Japanese key holder. A favorite photograph and written characters can be inserted inside. You'll choose from two types of bells that will be attached to your favorite pattern of colorful fabric. Next, we'll explore the lettering work. I know how to write in various styles, such as calligraphy, block style, semi-cursive, cursive, ancient clerical script, highly angular style, and the style used on seals. I hope you will consider the thoughts you wish to convey and the feeling you want to cherish—then you will make calligraphic letters to express those thoughts and feelings. Finally, you will insert the calligraphy work inside the netsuke. I think it will make you happy. Let's learn this Japanese tradition and write it together.

Mana&Aiko

Your hosts are Mana and Aiko. Mana started making netsukes to make it easier for people to convey their gentle feeling. Her netsuke sales support activities that reduce the number of pets being killed and help to export clean energy. Aiko believes that the opportunities to write handwritten characters are decreasing nowadays. She started calligraphy at the age of seven years old. Through this experience, she thinks people who have never used a brush will enjoy the unique feeling of writing letters with the brush and the warmth of the ink lines.
