Craigiehall Temple (historic property built 1759)

Make your trip to Edinburgh truly memorable with a stay at Craigiehall Temple. Built in 1759 and situated in its own grounds on a former part of the Craigiehall Estate, its Grade A listed for its stunning portico displaying the arms of the 1st Marquess of Annandale. A plaque on the wall carries a quote from Horace: "Dum Iicet in rebus jucundis vive beatus", "Live happy while you can among joyful things". It is completely self-contained in the centre of Drem, a hamlet in the heart of East Lothian. Only minutes from seaside towns and the Golf Coast, and also the Lammermuir Hills to the south, the area enjoys some of the best cycle routes in East Lothian too. Retaining some of its original features, The Bothy is a quiet countryside retreat, ideal for couples, families and golfers alike.

Within a few miles, you have the market town of Haddington and to the North the beautiful seaside town of North Berwick. The nearby coastline has numerous world class golf courses, walking routes and amazing beaches. Drem or North Berwick railway stations are closest.

Mary Queen of Scot's chamber at Neidpath Castle is perhaps the most romantic place to stay in the Scottish Borders. Explore privately the whole castle and then retire to enjoy your suite rooms. Peebles is 10 minutes walk away, with a host of shops and restaurants, as well as a museum and award winning chocolatier.

The cottage has benefited from a complete refurb in 2020 and an enclosed private garden. We sit directly on the river bank and walkway to Haddington and East Linton and a bus link directly into Edinburgh in 45 mins. We are around 15mins drive to the coast and North Berwick.

Whether you want to be active or just relax, Howden Cottage is a great base to enjoy all the delights of East Lothian. If you want a trip to Edinburgh it's about a 45 minute drive or you can drive to the local station - about 8 minutes away and take the train which is 25 minutes. Parking at the station is free.
