We are situated 5 minutes walk from Derwent Water and the Nicol End Marina for kayaking and water activities. Portinscale has a pub that serves food and a cafe. Our favourite eating places nearby are Swinside Inn and the Ivy Restaurant in Braithwaite. Keswick is a mere 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk for eating out, shopping and outdoor sports.

There is a village shop, two cafes, and three excellent pubs, all within 5 minutes walk of the cottage Surrounding the village is some of the best hillwalking you will find anywhere! The famous Coledale horseshoe ridge walk starts and finishes in the village. The popular mountain biking trail centre at Whinlatter Forrest is less than 2 miles from the cottage.

The hut is set in the middle of a family farm, forget about your busy lives and sit back and relax in this peaceful location ideal for a romantic retreat, with views up the Lorton valley ,cozy up into front of the wood burning stove and plan your adventure for the next day. The hut has no electricity but has solar lights, and a separate composting toilet, all bed linen is provide along with wood for the stove. A breakfast hamper will be delivered to your door in the morning

Dating back to 1695 (as engraved on the fireplace in the kitchen), the cottage retains many original features but has been sympathetically modernised. The cottage resides within our farm, Terrace Farm with open countryside and panoramic views of the Lakeland Fells and numerous Wainwrights including Melbreak, Whiteside, Low Fell, Hopegillhead to name but a few.

Switch off in quiet Bassenthwaite village in peaceful valley between lake & mighty Skiddaw mountain, 15 mins from popular market town Keswick - enjoy an open fire, Sun Inn pub 2 mins away (booking recommended), walks for all abilities (many from the door) & our runner ducks - if you want quieter lakes, villages & towns or the most popular locations, all accessible. 12 noon checkout on Sundays after 2 night weekends.
